Clinical Content Editor

Here is some personal background and a clinical content editor job opportunity provided by PRN member Rebecca C. Winokur, M.D.

“I’ve recently changed careers and wanted to share my experience as my company is now hiring to fill another position just like mine.   The brief version of how I got here is this.  I am trained as a Family Medicine physician with a primary care sports medicine fellowship and worked in a nice orthopedic practice for nearly 5 years.  A few years into my sports medicine work, I realized that I didn’t love my job.  And I had no call and saw generally healthy patients.  So I went to a SEAK conference, found The Entrepreneurial MD and used this web site to help define what I was looking for and develop a plan to get there.

I am happy to report that I am in my 9th month of my new career and I love my job.  I work on the Clinical Content Team for Allscripts, which among other things, has 3 EHR products.  I work for the EHR product that is used by large outpatient physician practices.

In my day-to-day work, I do a few different things.   My biggest responsibility is to develop the note template library.  We have over 7,000 templates and I am either revising these or developing new ones.  I do a lot of reading and discussing with physician-users to come up with the content.  I hold webcasts with user-groups to review my work and then help to package it for note content releases.  Another part of my job involves QA work both to look for software “bugs” in the note templates and to weigh in on clinical workflow changes.  I also work with individual clients to help optimizing their use of our EHR notes.  There is some travel, approximately 1-2 trips per month at most.  I do continue to practice one day per week, which is encouraged.

If this sounds interesting to you and you’re willing to live in Northern Vermont, take a look at the job description in the link below.”
